Motivate, Educate, Elevate

August 26, 2009

Wow, has it really been that long ???

I know you all miss me, and that’s OK, because I missed you guys too.

It’s been a busy two weeks, with wrapping up the Miami trip, and working on a few side projects I haven’t had time to really sit down and give my blog the attention it deserves. I’m not all the way back up to speed yet; I’m in the process of working on some articles for Platform Nation, and fixing a few computers… so give me a few weeks, and I will be all yours again. I promise.

I will talk about this one thing that bothered me last weekend.

I happened to make my way out to the N. Florida Fairgrounds for the back to school drive that was happening out there. I was checking out all the booths and there was one that especially caught my eye.

There was a row of inflatables and there was one that was an obstacle course. There were a bunch of kids lined up and running sprinting flying through these courses. However, these children are not the focus of today’s concern watch.

No, today it is the PARENTS of these children who get my side-eye. For some reason, these parents were under the impression this was the NFL combine. Now, i am all for some friendly competition, but those parents were on another level. It was like the parents were trying to relive their “glory days” through their kids, or worse, turn them into a meal ticket.

These parents were giving tips, shouting, yelling, threatening to not speak to them, and all sorts of things. It only got worse if the child lost; they instantly disowned their kids. Especially if a boy lost to a girl; I saw GROWN men who threatened boys to not lose to girls… I understand the mentality, but there are some fast girls out there, what can you do ? *snickers*

From what I saw, there was NO prizes being given to the winner, no trophies, no promise of a College Scholarship NFL contract or endorsement deal. It was just regular fun. I won’t lie, there were some FAST kids out there, but that doesn’t justify the behavior of the parents. Sometimes, parents have to let the kids have “fun”.

Motivate, Educate, and Elevate… I actually agree with him. Everyone is NOT going to get a contract/endorsement deal to play for your favorite professional team… SOMEONE has to record the game, SOMEONE has to be the doctor for the team, SOMEONE has to be the lawyer for the team to keep the players out of legal issues…

*Thanks to Princess Banana for the link !!!*

I was also concerned because there were parents out there who didn’t practice wisdom; if your child is of a certain height, weight, or size that doesn’t seem “appropriate” for the obstacle course… be a PARENT and let them know it isn’t for them. I cannot tell you how many times I saw children too big for the course struggle to get through the starting hole, or climb up the hills. Then there were the children too small to climb into the hole and were “boosted” in by their parents… THEN there were the kids who were too young, and started crying when they couldn’t overcome the obstacle.  Then to make matters worse, there were parents who tried to force their kids into finishing the course regardless of the tears or physical incapability.

— OK, I need to stop now… I already see where this is going. All I will say is this: There is nothing wrong with wanting to motivate your children for greatness, there is something wrong with pushing them for your own personal gain (Yes, I AM looking at you Mr. Jackson)

Tales from the Cuckoo’s nest: Light Bright

July 16, 2009

All day today, everyone has been playing with the lights…

I made it to the point where I was able to ignore the flickering of the lights. It also helped when they STOPPED.

“Mrs. Mack” decided that she’s going to fix the lights according to University standards; due to the budget cuts, the University stated that lights should only be on 2/3 of the way (there are 3 halogen tubes per light fixture.

This is wasting TOO much money !!!

This is wasting TOO much money !!!

As soon as Mrs Mack explains the situation and asks if the lights bothered me, “Mr. Asian man” decides he’s gonna go and turn ON the lights back to full brightness. He complains that he can’t see at all and he’s playing his accent up extra (believe me, I hear him on the phone often enough to know the “levels” of his accent”)

Mrs Mack tries to get him a lamp to help him out, but “It’s not enough” the lamp apparently can’t fit anywhere for him…

This man is COMPLAINING about the lights and the lamp !!!

so for now, we’re back to full lights… Come ON 4pm !!!

Really??? Part 3

April 29, 2009

There has been a reason I haven’t spoken about BETs “College Hill” for a couple of weeks.

yes, besides finishing projects so I can Graduate,

and yes besides making password protected posts, only to have a game setup nearby…

I have been personally avoiding “College Hill” like the swine flu because there is TOO much drama. it’s not even entertainment anymore… it’s just sad.

from the “phantom vomits”, people threatening others with pool sticks, people getting kicked out, and SOMEONE having bulimia… it’s too much.

I’m not sure how many of you have kept up with my previous posts in the “Really” series. Here’s Part 1, and here’s part 2.

I would like to take the time to say that the views expressed on THIS blog by THIS poster are the views of mine and mine alone. Please do not take my opinions for the absolute truth. If you feel that I have looked at a certain topic incorrectly, I am more than willing to discuss it in the replies and even type a retraction; if need be.

With that said:

WHAT in the WORLD is going on with “Mr. FAMU” ???

where do you come off attacking the new member on the bus as if you’re trying to haze them into your secret order of friends ?

OK, before I go any further, Watch this clip. you only need to watch just watch the whole thing. I’ll wait.

– thanks to Urban Televizion for the video

Like I was saying: REALLY Mr. FAMU ???

what did this young woman do to you? she JUST got on the bus, is trying to get acclimated with the group (it wasn’t HER fault she came to the show late) who are you to start attacking this woman?

Even IF she did have body odor; your reply wasn’t needed. How are you gonna make an announcement about how you “done cut on da hot wadder”  for someone to take a shower. When Allison decided to come to the defense of the new girl, Kyle decides to turn it up a notch. THEN when apparently Allison goes “too far” he wants to run outside to the beach with a drink and start crying ???  and the “peanut gallery” decides THAT is too far.

REALLY ???

Why is it everyone is willing to tolerate the mess of Kyle, and the MOMENT someone decides to fight back it’s “too much” ??? Kyle throws the race card and no one told him he went too far then…

Someone in the replies for my first blog on “College Hill” mentioned that Kyle is tolerated like “the drunk relative at the family reunion”. I don’t have a family member like that, so I guess I cannot “comprehend” the joy I’m missing… but, If I were to have such a family member, I don’t think their actions would be tolerated as such.  Then again, what do I know ? I don’t write blogs for ESPN

*not hating on the artist at all, just giving him some free attention.

Do I condone Allison bringing up Kyle’s Family situation? no, not really; things said in confidence should be kept in confidence. However, if you’re gonna make fun of people and try to embarrass them just so you can look good for the “in crowd” PLEASE be prepared for any of your own skeletons to be pointed out.

word.

Really ??? part 2.

April 7, 2009

So, I was able to watch College Hill last night, after missing last week’s episode, but through the magic of reruns… here’s last week’s episode:

Honestly, there isn’t even much to talk about for the previous week’s episode. Well, except for the “Democracy” portion… apparently, a fight breaks out the previous week, and the cast members has to vote on sending someone home. The morning of the vote, it was a 3-3 vote for neither to go home. Somehow, the vote becomes 4-2; thanks to “Mr. Famu” who felt that “Actions reflect louder than words” (I was only repeating the quote as I heard it)

I don’t know if either person really deserved to be sent home more than the other. BET realized after episode 1 that things were gonna go down. Milan says that even though she threw the first punch, the other girl was threatening to strike first. From my limited experience watching reality T.V. shows, usually (s)he who strikes first goes home.

Naturally, the house is “divided” which can only mean one thing: Future Drama !!!

This week’s episode doesn’t start out as “wild” as l. there was some poor planning on their behalf (partying till 5am when you have a HUGE event the next morning is not a good idea)

Not only were they are cranky crybabies the next day, they also dropped the ball one too many times. How is it that all 8  cast members feel the need to wait hand and foot for Flo Rida? REALLY???  when did he become a celebrity? overnight?

Here’s something I would like to add to the “Really” file that doesn’t deal with “College Hill” tonight:

Really ???

Really ???

Ms. Blogmaster and Salt did a little grocery shopping today, and Ms. Blogmaster brought this home. I could not beLIEVE my eyes when I saw this in the house. In the “defense” of the manufacture, there was a Caucasian male of “Rural descent” on the opposite side of the can.

I’m just saying, is this how things go down in 2009? Really?

Really?

March 25, 2009

So, as many of you know… the new season of College Hill started Last night. College hill is the B.E.T. version of “Real World”; but with “more”

last night it was more drama. during the “introduction” there was a student who attends FAMU who fired off the first shot. I’m not going to get into the details of what happened ( you more than likely watched)

Long story short, a person’s sexuality was called out with a sling shot, and to which he replied with an atomic bomb. It was interesting because the facebook community exploded !!! it seemed like the majority of the facebookers were “proud” that he “represented” their school and “stood up” for himself.

REALLY ???

Is that how you want the world to think of Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University ? (Yes, the ENTIRE name was needed) I mean I’m all for famous alumni… but how do you go from the school who performs with prince at the super bowl, to the school of a producer of “Stomp the yard“, to the school of the “fierce” guy who called out the “pageant princess” on the boat on College Hill.

REALLY ???

Some people say he was defending himself and his sexuality, some people liked it because he had “flair”. I guess.

I’m not saying a person doesn’t have the right to defend themselves when they feel wronged/offended; but it’s like he took out a Sledgehammer to deal with some ants.

Oh, and what’s REALLY good with B.E.T. having the cast getting into all types of looseness on the first night???

“Let’s give these college kids some chocolate, strawberries, handcuffs, and whipped cream and see what happens” I bet you this was “his” idea with his “Harvard Humor” (both of these links are extra NSFW)

Ms. “I have a boyfriend” we do NOT approve. You wouldn’t do this on a normal basis, why does the presence of a  camera make it OK ? we all know that if the roles were reversed, you would be ready to break up with your bf and calling him all types of “dog” and “no good”. Don’t be a hypocrite; and yes, you could have politely declined… or act like “Mr. Famu” from earlier that day; it seemed like a good day to shout and yell.

Ms. “I get jealous after meeting you for one night” what is your deal??? you’ve known him less than 24 hours and you’re already ironing his clothes and making his bed? what part of the game is that? and what’s the result? your “boo” comes home and doesn’t even acknowledge you. I do respect you for realizing that you’re a naive person and realize that you’re too trusting of people. kudos to you why is it as soon as I give you kudos, you had to get on the phone with your mom and get ready to burn the place down? *sighs*

How do you feel about last night’s season premiere ?

I wanted to post a bunch of video clips… but the YouTubers weren’t on their job

So I saw one of these in the union today.
Actually it was a gang of them.

Clever marketing or a waste of money.
They had coupons for the McCafe drinks. I don’t drink those things so I kept it moving (plus it was still cold out)
