Area unlocked: Jacksonville, FL

May 22, 2009

This post has been a long time coming.

During the middle of last week, I took a trip to Jacksonville, FL

Why ? to see what it was like out there. Well, I went looking for RIBS also…

Seriously, at some point in the near future I we shall be leaving the land of the ‘Noles (and Rattlers) to “seek out new life and new civilizations” (give yourself 5 points if you get the reference) Star Trek

I decided since I had some newly acquired spare time, I would go ahead and check out this place to see what all the fuss was about.

When I actually got there the weather was pretty bad, so I ended up staying in my hotel room the whole night watching the Playoffs. I did manage to sneak out and get some pizza from a place I heard about from my Tour Guide 🙂

The next day, I actually went  out and did some Sight Seeing. I went to a Museum, and took pictures of the wildlife and other. I went ahead and added a photo gallery of all the good shots I took around town. there are mini stories with some of them when you click that specific picture. Enjoy.

I thought I was going to have a drama free trip, but I was wrong. As I walked to the Rib place with my tour guide (who is white, not that it matters to me, but is vital for the story) there was a group of people eating outside of a restaurant and decided to yell “Thank God for Obama” as we walked by. I wasn’t aware ignorance was still alive in the south =/ in Florida no less. When I think “Racist South” Florida doesn’t sit at the top of my list, but that’s just me. This guy disagrees.  (please don’t be offended by the “Racist South link… I couldn’t resist)

My tour guide thinks it was coincidental that the man yelled that as we walked past… but I know better. When your birthday is the Day after Malcolm X’s and the day Florida celebrates “Emancipation Day” your “Racial Senses” tend to tingle more than others…

There is Racism afoot !!!

There is Racism afoot !!!

Finally, I would like to say that I am aware that I did not cover all of Jacksonville. It took close to 3o minutes to get anywhere, and I only had one day to check the city out; but from what I saw, It was nice. Nice enough to maybe move out there; naturally that depends on the economy and job market and all those other important adult things… I think I might need to do a couple more of these “discovery trips” to check out the rest of the state. Any suggestions on where I should visit next?

A special thanks to my Tour Guide for showing me the sights and sounds of Jacksonville. Your services maybe needed on a later date 🙂

Free Ribs ’09

May 16, 2009

This space is reserved  for anything that might happen while I’m out getting free ribs.

It is 8:10 am, and I am getting ready to leave my house.

I get here at 9:18 and there are already about 20 people out here. I had plans on getting here earlier, but someones phone died.

Moving on, I would like to take this time to mention that Shane’s Rib Shack actually doesn’t open until 11am. There was a lot more publicity for the event, and there were more people here I think.
MellownMighty got here 925, and another 4 people arrive by 9:30.

Oh and I would like to give the “hater of the year” award to the lady who wouldn’t let MnM skip, I don’t think it was that big of a deal for ONE person to skip, but then again I had food at home.

About 9:40 the Manager steps out and says that they will hand out the shirts at 10:20 …

Apparently there’s a rumor that the fliers mentioned free sides… I see a fallout on the horizon something very similar to…

So to ms hater I have a question… So since u left the line and your husband in line, are we allowed to tell you not to cut the line ?

Speaking of line cuts… This is getting a little out of hand. I counted at least 4…

A storm is brewing…

10:13 and it’s a healthy line, not quite 100

It’s 1020 and no sign of the shirts…
People are still in good spirits and no fights or arguments broke out.

Shirt distribution started at 10:29

Bloggers need ribs too !!!

Bloggers need ribs too !!!

I got 29 ( I was 11 last year )

MnM was 31, and she actually almost didn’t get a shirt, the owner kinda looked over her…

My super cool camera man was # 30
and his Arab Money homeboy was #28

Mr and Mrs hater were #s 26 and 27 respectively because we let them skip so the four of us could eat together.
Last shirt of the first wave was # 88 at 10:33

LOL @ a blond getting #69 and not getting why everyone wanted her picture…

Yup... and she has a kid, she insisted on telling us that.

Yup... and she has a kid, she insisted on telling us that.

Shirt #100 given out at 10:40am

I had to out run my friend for this shirt. He's got more money, he'll be ok

I had to out run my friend for this shirt. He's got more money, he'll be ok

5 people promptly show up afterwards  looking for shirts, my condolences to their stomachs and wallets…

I would like to know why people expected to show up 20 minutes before the place opened and expected to get a T-shirt; You should have woken up early like this guy:

I heard he was at the Rib Shack from about 6 or 7am

I heard he was at the Rib Shack from about 6 or 7am

Special shout out to my ribs photographer for taking a bunch of the pictures today.

He also gave me a ride to the Rib-Shack.

He also gave me a ride to the Rib-Shack.

I Would like to take this time to state that I do NOT sound like this guy I don’t care WHAT my photographer thinks. For the most part, it’s been pretty peaceful out here, no fights, no arguments, no one got hit with a bottle

A news crew arrives 10:53… You’ve already been scooped by an amazing blogger. If you’re in the Tallahassee area, check ABC news around 6:30pm I might be on…

*Edit: I actually went ahead and recorded the news report; I think I did a better job talking about the event. That’s what happens when you arrive late. Enjoy. *

No, that is NOT me eating before the young male who is talking about the free ribs and pool parties; i’m pretty sure it’s him.

From what I gathered, there were about 10 people out here from last year.

shame on # 22 for wanting to be on the 6:30 news for this event; I hope he isn’t asked for his opinion on the other Free Food situation…

And a bigger “shame on you” for the news guy trying to get in the personal space of everyone while they’re trying to eat. I understand that there is probably NOTHING else going on in town right now; but please sir, respect the boundaries of everyone trying to eat Free Ribs.

Funny quotes of the day:

“Aww, Sorry Ms. Becky maybe next year dear” – #36. She said that for EVERY white girl that didn’t get free ribs.

“put THAT in your blog ” – MnM

and “I didnt’ get my Ribs !!!” – My photographer planned on saying this after we all ate to see if he could get more ribs…

I didn't get my Ribs !!!

I didn't get my Ribs !!!

With a full stomach and a plate of empty bones, I must say I truly enjoyed myself. They reminded me that no matter WHERE I go, their ribs will reign supreme.

I noticed that the crowd was very diverse: I didn’t see any Asian people or any Hispanics. MnM said she saw 2 Asian people… I thought everyone liked ribs. (slightly NSFW)

And a thunderstorm starts to end the event. We end up leaving at 11:47.

Graduation Eve

May 1, 2009
That will be me in a few Hours !!!

That will be me in a few Hours !!! minus the jacket, chain, and record...

Hello Everyone !!!

This is the night before Graduation, and I thought I would post some updates:

The parents are in town, and they are ready for me to walk across the stage. I ended up only needing 3 tickets after all; it’s a lot like the BCS, somehow that system “usually” works itself out.

Here is the link for My Graduation Ceremony, Enjoy !!!

Here is the link for the 9am Ceremony !!!

Congratulations to ALL of the graduates !!!

Really??? Part 3

April 29, 2009

There has been a reason I haven’t spoken about BETs “College Hill” for a couple of weeks.

yes, besides finishing projects so I can Graduate,

and yes besides making password protected posts, only to have a game setup nearby…

I have been personally avoiding “College Hill” like the swine flu because there is TOO much drama. it’s not even entertainment anymore… it’s just sad.

from the “phantom vomits”, people threatening others with pool sticks, people getting kicked out, and SOMEONE having bulimia… it’s too much.

I’m not sure how many of you have kept up with my previous posts in the “Really” series. Here’s Part 1, and here’s part 2.

I would like to take the time to say that the views expressed on THIS blog by THIS poster are the views of mine and mine alone. Please do not take my opinions for the absolute truth. If you feel that I have looked at a certain topic incorrectly, I am more than willing to discuss it in the replies and even type a retraction; if need be.

With that said:

WHAT in the WORLD is going on with “Mr. FAMU” ???

where do you come off attacking the new member on the bus as if you’re trying to haze them into your secret order of friends ?

OK, before I go any further, Watch this clip. you only need to watch just watch the whole thing. I’ll wait.

– thanks to Urban Televizion for the video

Like I was saying: REALLY Mr. FAMU ???

what did this young woman do to you? she JUST got on the bus, is trying to get acclimated with the group (it wasn’t HER fault she came to the show late) who are you to start attacking this woman?

Even IF she did have body odor; your reply wasn’t needed. How are you gonna make an announcement about how you “done cut on da hot wadder”  for someone to take a shower. When Allison decided to come to the defense of the new girl, Kyle decides to turn it up a notch. THEN when apparently Allison goes “too far” he wants to run outside to the beach with a drink and start crying ???  and the “peanut gallery” decides THAT is too far.

Why is it everyone is willing to tolerate the mess of Kyle, and the MOMENT someone decides to fight back it’s “too much” ??? Kyle throws the race card and no one told him he went too far then…

Someone in the replies for my first blog on “College Hill” mentioned that Kyle is tolerated like “the drunk relative at the family reunion”. I don’t have a family member like that, so I guess I cannot “comprehend” the joy I’m missing… but, If I were to have such a family member, I don’t think their actions would be tolerated as such.  Then again, what do I know ? I don’t write blogs for ESPN

*not hating on the artist at all, just giving him some free attention.

Do I condone Allison bringing up Kyle’s Family situation? no, not really; things said in confidence should be kept in confidence. However, if you’re gonna make fun of people and try to embarrass them just so you can look good for the “in crowd” PLEASE be prepared for any of your own skeletons to be pointed out.

Monday 24

April 27, 2009

It’s another Monday… *yawn* forgive me, it’s been an interesting weekend.

OneFresh Stirfry Password: get a surprise when you say “New Menu” I don’t know what it is… but if you find out before me, let me know.

time for a countdown recap:

  • 3 weeks and 2 days until my birthday
  • 2 weeks and 5 days until free rib day (remember first 100)
  • 5, 5 days, 5 days until graduation !!!

Everything else has happened already:

  • The Graduation party was a success. Lots of people were in the place, and we had a great time. However, I will have to learn to plan better for my next party. More food, and maybe a better time frame will help… I had people strolling in around 11 even though the party died down around 10… A special thank you to everyone that did get there on time (even though I and Ms. Blogmaster was late)
  • Classes being over is such an amazing feeling. when FINALS are over (this Friday) I might do a cartwheel or 2.
  • Being away from the office for 3 weeks is a blessing and a curse. Yes, that is 3 weeks I’m not making money, but that is 3 weeks away from the mother hens. We needed some time apart !!!

Things that happened last week:

On my Facebook Status I have the following-

D. Blogmaster Sums up last night’s party as such: My friends were able to come through and Everyone enjoyed themselves. Ra’Jon makes great drinks and there was a Great cake from Publix. I’ve learned that Entertaining guest requires a little more planning and YOU need to Read my blog later today/tomorrow for more details

Let's play a game

Let's play a game

Somewhere in that message is the password. There are a few rules you will need to keep in mind to go forward:

  1. Start after the colon
  2. Letters will be lost. YOUr mind must be sacrificed to truly understand.
  3. The answer must be entered in lower-cased letters for entrance
  4. The password is a real “dictionarilized” word. (Thanks to Peach Cleaves for the proper term)
  5. I will not distribute any hints.
  6. Have fun.

I’ve actually decided to keep it locked for 2 weeks. I am well aware that it’s finals week for a lot of students and you don’t want to “Waste” any brainpower on something that won’t result in a grade for a class. This is meant to be just a fun pastime. If for some reason you really can’t figure it out and REALLY can’t wait; send me an e-mail.

Graduation Mobile Moment 2

April 23, 2009

As of now, it seems like everything is in order for Graduation.

  • My NY family is working on getting plane tickets and such.
  • My FL  family is just about ready to arrive.
  • I am on the verge of passing all of my classes (Most important !!!)

I am still pretty anxious. My heartbeat has been an extra 10 beats per minute, and my stomach isn’t quite sure if it likes food any more not.  The food stays down, it’s a matter of convincing my stomach I’m actually hungry.

Graduation Mobile Moment 1

April 20, 2009

I would like to take you on a special edition of Mobile Moment: the Graduation edition. In these final two weeks, as mobile moments dealing with graduation arrive, I will place this special “tag” on it. Enjoy.

Its 227 and I’m currently standing in line for my cap and gown. It seems like there is no end to this line

Are we there yet?

231 and the line is moving along better than I thought

It’s 2: 37 , and Just like that, I know have my Cap & Gown, well on my way to graduation which is 2 weeks away.

the Gown is black, it just looks blue, and I'm happy the tassel isn't pink !!!

Now, all I have to do is figure out who gets my 9 Graduation tickets…  =/
