Audio Crack 2

Tonight, I was SUPPOSED to give my Review for Eminem’s and Busta Rhymes New Albums. I would like to humbly apologize; both Albums need more time in my ears before I give a fair assessment of them.

Instead, I will ask you my readers two interesting questions:

  1. Who are your top 5 MCs ? for now, we’ll stick to those that are alive
  2. Who are your top 5 rappers? and we shall stick to those who are still breathing.

If you are not sure of the difference; that’s OK, there isn’t really a difference. The difference is in the “Flow Style” I went ahead and looked this up on wikipedia, this is what they had to say:

Flow styles

A common way MCs judge how to flow rhythmically in a verse is by stressing syllables in time to the four beats of the musical backdrop[35]. Poetry scholar Derek Attridge describes how this works in his book Poetic Rhythm – “rap lyrics are written to be performed to an accompaniment that emphasizes the metrical structure of the verse”[36]. He says rap lyrics are made up of…

“…lines with four stressed beats, separated by other syllables that may vary in number and may include other stressed syllables. The strong beat of the accompaniment coincides with the stressed beats of the verse, and the rapper organizes the rhythms of the intervening syllables to provide variety and surprise”[37].

MCs also use a lot of different rhyming techniques, including complex rhyme schemes, as Adam Krims points out – “the complexity… involves multiple rhymes in the same rhyme complex (i.e. section with consistently rhyming words), internal rhymes, [and] offbeat rhymes”[38]. There is also widespread use of multisyllabic rhymes, by artists such as Kool G Rap[39]Big Daddy Kane[40], and Eminem [41].

There are many different styles of flow, with different terminology used by different people – stic.man of Dead Prez uses the following terms –

Alternatively, music scholar Adam Krims uses the following terms –

OK, now that you have a quick lesson on how this “Rap Game”  works, please answer in the Comments section. Please feel free to respectfully debate the views of others, but let’s not turn this into E-Beef.

Okay, this is kinda difficult, but if i had to say my top 5, in no order, just of the top, it would be:
    Nas
    Jay-Z
    Eminem
    Lupe
    Kanye
Now there dont get me wrong there are alot more artists out there who are amazing, or were good in their prime, but just arent anymore. These are the top 5 that still kill it everytime they touch a beat.

Well, this is a pretty solid list of the living. and I agree there are a lot of people who are amazing. What makes these guys good enough to be on the list?

If I have to break it down, well Nas has put out the greatest hiphop album ever with illmatic and is this generations tupac when it comes to his lyrical talent and storytelling. Jay-Z is just a rap mogual, he started his own label and turned it into an enterprise and he was doing what lil wayne is doing now just on a greater level. Jay-z was on everyones remix everyones featured artist and he kills it everytime he flows. Eminem, he has been underground for a little, but he came back, in a disturbing way, but his flow is untouchable, he has the ablilty to use alteration like no one and plus the fact he got so much crap for being a white artist, he over came everything and is better than 90% of artists out. Kanye has amazing beats, and was under the wing of Jay-z so his lyrical talent is on point. Lupe is very underrated in my opinion, but as a sophomore artist he is killin it, he is very live and his word play is out of this world. It all comes down to oringinality and storytelling, and all these artists have it

There isn’t anyway I can narrow it down to 5 rappers. Reason being is because each rapper I think is hot is great in their own lane. Everyone has mentioned the obvious, because we still hear them more regularly than others. However, rappers like Method Man, Talib,Common,Black Milk(not too many people have heard of him, but he’s HOT!! check him out)go under the radar on the basis that they are not as exposed. Now if you wanna go into the worst rappers, that’ll be a lil easier for me…lol

so you’re telling me that some aren’t better than others?

can you honestly sit there with a straight face and say Mike Jones (Who ?) and Cassidy are on the same level ?
