Well week wasn’t unlucky for the #9 ranked USF Bulls. Thats right its Ala81 here and I must say we had a pretty good game this week. We were facing conference opponent UConn in our last home game of the season. We had a few recruits here to watch and we put on a good show for them. On the recruiting trail we snagged two more players this week, a 4 star speed running back and a 3 star wide receiver, both of whom may get a redshirt season and become big time players in my offense. Ok, now that that’s out of the way on to the game. Things started great, and by great I mean we return the opening kick off for a touchdown, then hold them to a field goal on their first possession. We get the ball back and on our first offensive my RB Mike Ford (Heisman hopeful) breaks a 52 yard run for a score. Like that up 14-3. They then go 3 and out and on my next possession my QB throws an interception they return for their only score of the game. That was about the only bad part of the game. With the game recap out of the way we can move on to the most important news of the week, that being that my star RB Mike Ford who is #1 in the Heisman race, dislocated his shoulder and is going to be out 7 weeks, may be back for a bowl game not sure though. That pretty much sucks and ruins his Heisman hopes. I do want to shout out DTownsend’s RB J. Best for making it on the Heisman list for the first time this week.
Matt Grothe, QB: 23-25 for 230 yards, 2 tds and the one interception I talked about earlier. He didn’t do much on the ground but ran the option nice and set up a couple of good runs for Ford.
Mike Ford, RB: 11 rushes for 107 yards and 2 tds. He also caught 6 passes for 58 yards. I’m pretty upset about his shoulder situation. I just hope he can play in the bowl game we make it to.
Benjamin Williams, RB: Ford’s replacement rushed twice for 46 yards and a 44 yard td run to close out the game. Seems to be a decent replacement for Ford, we’ll have to see how the Senior RB plays the rest of the season.
AJ Love, WR: The sophomore has become Grothe’s go to guy whenever we need some yardage. He caught 7 passes for 91 yards and a td. Very solid game, and he can be electric with the ball in his hands.
Taurus Johnson, WR: My senior kick returner got the game off to a great start by setting the school record for longest kick return by returning the opening kick off 94 yards for a touchdown. He ended the day with over 150 all-purpose yards and 2 tds. (and no cracks about how a guy named Taurus plays for the Bulls)
Good game overall, defense showed up holing UConn to only 190 total yards. Offense did a great job, Mike Ford helped his Heisman chances too bad he got hurt. Next week a bye and then one last game against West Virginia.
